2016-2017

Senior Tuba Joe King performed with the Kansas State Lions Concert Band in Baldwin, Kansas June of 2016.

Senior Trumpet Section Leader Evan Morales was awarded for Outstanding Attitude at the Kansas State Leadership & Auxiliary Camp in July of 2016.

VCMS Band Students for the 2016 Pioneer League Honor Band: Samantha Chavez, Teagan Horning- Flute/Brynlynn Jones, Erin Throne, Melissa Lay, Maddie Hamm-Clarinet/Jeffery Ju, Brenden Vining-Alto Sax/Caleb Rose, Kekoa Vincent, Hudson Brown-Trumpet/Ben Lutz-French Horn/Garrett Craft-Trombone/Dominic Santiago-Baritone/Dale Waters, Daniel Hammond-Percussion.  

Junior Trombone Gabe Karst for making 2nd Trombone in the 2016 South Central Kansas Music Educators Association District Jazz Ensemble.

Sophomore Bassoon Sophie Peterson & Junior Trombone Gabe Karst earned positions with the Wichita Youth Symphony. 

The Hornet Marching Band places 3rd in Class 5A at the Kansas Bandmasters Association State-Wide competition at Washburn University. The Band earned the high caption award in Colorguard  for the 5A Class. The Band performed an overall 10th place finish out 21 performing ensembles from around the state of Kansas. 

VCHS Band Students Garrett Rogers- 2nd Chair Flute, Sophie Peterson- 2nd Chair Bassoon, Sarah Wolfe- 2nd Chair Alto Sax, Matt Clark- Alternate Alto Sax, Cole Ashcraft- Bari Sax, Gabe Karst- 3rd Trombone, & Dale Hatfield- 1st Chair Tuba gained positions in the 2016 South Central Kansas Music Educators Association 5/6A District Band. 

VCHS Colorguard Members Adelynn Hewlett, Caroline Norman, Anna Qualls accepted as members of the ICT Independent Winterguard competing around the Mid-West and at the WGI World Championship in Dayton, Ohio.

VCHS Band Students Gabe Karst (3rd Trombone-5/6A Band) & Garrett Rogers (4th Chair Flute-5/6A Band) gained positions in the Kansas Music Educator Association All-State Ensembles. Bari Sax Cole Ashcraft was named as sole alternate in both the State Band & State Jazz Ensemble.

32 Superior VCHS Soloists/Ensemble Students-KSHAA Regional Solo/Ensemble Festival @ Eisenhower High School April 8th, 2017. 

The VCHS Wind Ensemble performs to  overall  "Superior " Ratings  in the State Large Group Festival at Wichita East High School April 12th. The Wind Ensemble receives straight "1's" from the 3 judges for a 3rd straight year. The VCHS Concert Band recieves an overall "Excellent" Rating.

VCMS 7th & 8th Grade Bands Earned "SUPERIOR" Ratings in the Pioneer League Music Festival at Circle Middle School  April 19th. 33 Superior/2 Excellent Rated Solo or Ensembles for VCMS Band Students. 

28 Superior & 2 Excellent Ratings given to VCHS Soloists/Ensemble Students KSHAA State Solo/Ensemble Festival at Emporia High School.

Valley Center Instrumental Music and Parent Band Aide Organization hosted the 5th Hornet Marching Invitational October 3rd with the "Big Blue Band" of Enid High School (Oklahoma) placing first as Champion for a second year.

The Hornet Marching Band places 2nd in Class 5A at the Inaugural Kansas Bandmasters Association State-Wide competition at Washburn University. The Band earned the caption awards High Music & High Percussion for the 5A Class. The Band performed an overall 10th place finish out 21 performing ensembles from around the state of Kansas.

2014-2015

Valley Center Instrumental Music and Parent Band Aide Organization hosted the 4th Hornet Marching Invitational October 4th with the "Big Blue Band" of Enid High School (Oklahoma) placing first as Champion.

Hornet Marching Band finish 7th Overall in the Shawnee Mission North Invitational October  18th. VCHS Drum Majors Wesley Crow & Jayden McCall earn the High Drum Major Award for the event.

Hornet Marching Band ends the 2014 Marching Season placing 2nd in Division & 7th Overall out of 23 performing ensembles in the Heart of America Marching Festival at the University of Kansas November 1st.

Trombone Gabe Karst selected 1st Chair Trombone in the Wichita Youth Symphony Repertory Orchestra along with Flute Amanda Smith, Oboe Olivia Minihan, & Wesley Crow performing in the Youth Symphony.

Trombone Wesley Crow and  Baritone Sax Devin Hatfield selected to the 2014 Mid-Kansas Jazz Ensemble.

Devin Hatfield & Wesley Crow selected to the South Central KMEA District Jazz Band.

VCHS Hornet Marching Band receives a Superior Rating in the Central States Marching Festival at Kansas State October 19th. VC Colorguard and Drumline earned "1" Ratings in each of their captions.

Hornet Marching Band finish the 2013 marching season making VC Band History for a first ever placement in Finals at the Shawnee Mission North Invitational October  26th. The Band finished 8th overall.

The VCHS Concert Band earns a Superior Rating & 1st in Class in the Music in the Parks Competition at St. Louis, Missouri in April. VCHS Jazz performed to a Excellent Rating as well on a trip enjoyed by all the students, parents, & staff.

VC Band Students Wesley Crow, Gabe Karst, & Amanda Smith gained positions in the Wichita Youth Symphony. Garret Rogers won the middle school portion of the TACK Competition held at Wichita State.

2011-2012

VCHS Band Students Madi Swift, Laramie Unruh, Christy Collins, Garrett McDannald, & Logan Zane  represented Valley at THE CAMP. They earned the All-School Award for BEST ATTITUDE representing Colorguard & Section Leaders in June of 2011.

Senior Drum Major Eli Karst awarded High Drum Major at the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps Drum Major Camp in Rockford, Illinois in June of 2011.

Senior Flute Student Faith McDaniel became a Four Year Member of the Kansas Lions All-State Band that performed at Baker University in June of 2011.

VC Students Emily Stone, Logan Zane, Wesley Crow, & Alumni Elisha Stone all gained top chairs in the Fort Hays High Plains Band Camp Honor Band.

VCHS Hornet Marching Band competes in it's first out-of-state competition in Blue Springs, Missouri October 1st.

Valley Center Instrumental Music and Parent Band Aide Organization hosts the First Hornet Marching Invitational October 8th with the Buhler Marching Crusaders becoming the first Champions in a Standstill Competition due to inclement weather.

VCHS Hornet Marching Band recieves a Superior Rating in the Central States Marching Festival at Kansas State October 15th. VC Colorguard and Drumline earned "1" Ratings in each of their captions.

Superior Rating while placing 8th overall with 20 other Bands in the Heart of America Marching Festival at the University of Kansas October 29th. VC Colorguard achieved Second in their caption while the VC Drumline earned the overall "Outstanding Percussion" of the Festival.

5 VCHS Instrumental Music Students selected to the 2011 SCKMEA District Honor Band and Orchestra. Oboe Student, Lauren Burks 1st Chair District Orchestra & Bass Clarinetist, Emily Stone 1st Chair 5/6A District Band.

Junior Oboist Shannon Crow selected 1st Chair in the 2012 KMEA 5/6A All-State Band. Oboist Lauren Burks was selected as alternate for the 5/6A Band.

VCHS Wind Ensemble Superior Rating at State Large Group Festival while the VCHS Symphonic earned a Excellent Rating from a much improved performance being the first year Valley Center was represented with 2 performing ensembles.

VCHS Concert Band 3 Excellent Ratings, 2nd Place & Gold Award, World Heritage Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois. Earns invitation to the "Festival of Gold"  held in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, or Washington DC. The VCHS Jazz Ensemble earns a Silver Award.

2010-2011

VCMS 7th/8th Grade Bands Performed for the first time as a Marching Ensemble in The 2010 Valley Center Fall Festival.

2nd Place Overall with a score of 70.0 at The 2010 Goddard Fall Festival Of Bands October 2nd. Eli Karst and Matt Dolezal chosen as High Drum Majors for second straight year. VC Colorguard and Drumline placed second in their sub-captions. The Band also achieved 2nd place in Parade Performance.

Freshmen Jared Kirkland chosen as alternate Bass Player in the SCKMEA 5/6A Jazz Ensemble.

First Ever Superior Rating with Marching Band in the Central States Marching Festival at Kansas State University October 23rd. VC Colorguard and Drumline earned "1" Ratings in each of their captions.

Superior Rating in Marching Band at the Southern Plains Marching Festival in Andover, Kansas. Colorguard achieved a "1" Rating while the VC Drumline finished the season gaining a "1+" Rating.

10 VCHS Instrumental Music Students selected to SCKMEA District Honor Band and Orchestra returning to Class 5A.

22 VCMS 7th and 8th Grade Band Students selected to the 2010 Pioneer League Honor Band.

Senior Violinist Brandon Lay awarded 3rd place in the Wichita Youth Symphony Solo Competition. Earned a full scholarship to any prestigious summer music camp in the country.

VC Band Alumnus, Trombonist Jacob Miller was voted Most Valuable Freshmen in the Kansas State Wildcat Marching Band.
